Based Professions
Do you have a skill that you are currently using to benefit
an employer, but could be used to run your own business?
Virtually any licensed professional can
begin a home-based business around their skill. Don't have a
license yet? Get one now while you're still employed, and while
your employer will give you a great reference.
The amount of foot traffic you're likely to get in a home
office is obviously not the same as you'd get in a storefront.
Can you still make it work? Maybe. Your expenses in your home
office would likely be lower, you would not be paying
salaries, and you remove the travel time to and from your
office.
Professionals which have historically worked from a home
office in times past include:
- Physician
- Attorney
- CPA or Enrolled Agent
- Professional Engineer
- Realtor
- Hairdresser
- Seamstress
Newer professionals that are successfully working from home
offices all over the country:
- Consultant
- Computer Software Developer
- Web Designer
- Internet Marketer
- Venture Capitalist
- Mortgage Broker
Not every job description can be done from home. If you work
in a factory, for example, there is no transition to a
home-based business available to you. In that case, you'd want
to learn a profession and build your business part-time as you
learn.
With enough effort and desire, you can build a home business
no matter who you are and what your skill level. Of course, it
is easier if you already have a profession which is easy to
convert, and if you have sufficient funding to help you simply
leave your job and start over from home.
